Summer Interns

Eliza Sawyer of Seven Hills Upper School and Hannah Hall entering Denison University are our summer intern to help promote "Clean Hands Prevent Disease Save Lives", one of the basic premises of the Henry the Hand Champion Handwasher Campaign. If you can "lend a Hand" to help them accomplish a few of our goals this year, will be greatly appreciated:

     1) Establish a Henry the Hand Champion Handwasher Club in your highschool or college which can teach the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness to your elementary students, daycares and community at large.

    2) Encourage ALL community events that serve food to have handwash facilities readily available.

    3) Provide feedback for any suggestions you offer to help "spread the word not the germs!"

   4) Keep the students healthy on your campus by reducing infectious disease incidence.

Henry the Hand Champion Handwasher Club

HTH Club for High School:

Purpose:

School district administrations are not teaching true primary infection prevention in order to improve health and "presenteeism" at school to give EVERY student a better chance to be a better learner. We want to take the lead to teach the student body the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness and pass primary infection prevention Program on to othes to help them improve "presenteeism" and betterpotential for learning.

Objectives:

1. To teach high school, middle school and elementary school students this true primary infection prevention principles. And being healthy is MORE fun.

2. To teach the value of using multi-media strategies to improve retention.

3. To teach social marketing strategies to improve health.

4. To provide a scientifically sound community service program for high school students to offer their to communities.

Reason:

High School administrators have NOT prepared us with the correct training on true primary infection prevention techniques for contracting respiratory or gastro-intestinal diseases. So we are taking the issue into OUR own HANDS by creating the Henry the Hand Clubs to promote Henry the Hand’s 4 Principles of Hand Awareness. Just for the health of it!

Content:

The respiratory etiquette demo, germ potion demo, sniff test and “Don’t Touch the T Zone” are the basis of the Campaign. You will be able to "see" germs, like never before!

We would like to disseminate this information to the student body; University, high school, middle school and elementary schools. Presenteeism is SO critical to learning, since a healthy student is a better learner.

We want to give ALL students a chance to be successful. Reducing incidence of respiratory and gastro-intestinal illness will improve OUR ability to learn.

Getting Started:

What does it take to get started?

A few students who are “hand aware” of how valuable NOT touching the T Zone and regular hand washing is in the prevention of the spread of disease: before eating, after recess, entering school, after the bathroom and more frequently when illness incidence increases at school.

Identify an interested teacher to be the club sponsor. Fridays become T-shirt day and Demonstration day (respiratory etiquette and germ potion demos) for the student body and teach to the elementary students.

Hint: Have a Fun-Raiser to be able to purchase T-shirts and one School Kit, which provides the Program. The rest is your enthusiasm and promotion of utilizing existing supplies (soap, sanitizers, water and paper towels) that should already in ample supply at your school. If not cause a stir! It is difficult to complete a task without the correct Tools!

Have a teacher or parent sponsor contact us to begin to set up the Henry the Hand Club at your High School.

A few Reach Ideas:

Champion Handwasher School District:

1. Song or video competition for effective communication of the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness.

2. Compete against other School Districts for lowest illness rates due to infectious disease.

3. A competition for the largest number of students and adults who are taught the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness.

REMEMBER OUR future is in YOUR HANDS!!!

              Thank you,
