Henry the Hand “Hand Awareness” School Program

This School Program is modeled after the Johns Hopkins model of Partnership 2000 and in a lesson plan curriculum that simply trains students, faculty, and staff how to prevent the spread of respiratory and gastro-intestinal diseases. After instituting this Program, a school will see a decrease in the incidence of illness. A healthy learner is a better learner. This multi-media and multi-sensory program will have a beneficial health impact on every student and school employee.

The innovative reinforcement techniques and tools implemented into your school culture will develop life long practicing of the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness, which have been endorsed by the AMA and the AAFP. Is funding the issue preventing purchase?

There are many individuals and organizations that are willing to sponsor the School Program: PAs/PTAs, local business, hospitals, doctors, and dentists.  Community collaboration is the model we are trying to achieve to truly prevent the spread of germs.

Contents: 1000 (2.5 ") stickers, 400 water soluble Tattoos, 10 Sink Reminders, School Visit DVD (2.5 minute action packed teaching tool), CD of 2 songs (Doin' the Handwash and Theme Song), Germ Potion (8 oz) and LED black light, micro droplet demonstration Spray bottle, 10 buttons, Hand Puppet, Henry's Finger Nail Brush, and 3 posters.

Henry the Hand Champion Handwasher School Program

You have just discovered the state of the art Handwashing Awareness program that will never be forgotten by anyone (students, teachers or parents) who participates. Henry the Hand Champion Handwashing Awareness Program is based on the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness (Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette). There is a self explanatory Teachers Curriculum Guide and a Coloring/Activity Book that is a multi-media lesson plan based curriculum and complies with many of the federal health education guidelines: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/op/handwashing.htm

This multi-media Program will have an impact on every student and using the Reinforcement Tools periodically will improve the results necessary to develop life long practicers of the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness, which have been endorsed by the AMA and the AAFP. The 2 1/2 minute animation is very effective and can be used repetitively taking any oppurtunity to be used as a Reinforcement Tool to improve compliance, hence health. These children may work in food service(~45% of working teenagers) or health care later in life and will be better prepared to help prevent food borne or nosocomial infections(hospital acquired infections).

Also there is a Henry costume (7 feet tall when inflated) that can visit your school or community event, as well. There is a 15-20 minute Skit for your School or Community program to use for a successful performance. If Henry is not available, there are Henry hand puppets that can be used in a Puppet Show setting with the School Skit script.

To see one of the costumes go to the HomePage.

Henry the Hand School Visit checklist

The School nurse or Principal and a PTA parent have proven to be a good TEAM to carry out a successful. Some schools identify "Handwashing Awareness Week" (any time it works for your school, not limited to National Handwashing Awareness Week in December)  the week after the Skit so the students(and teachers) know what the 4  Principles of Hand Awareness are about. Down load Posters from the web to be posted in strategic locations to create intrigue and garner interest. There is International Clean Hands Week the 3rd week of september each year, International Infection Prevention Week in october and Patient Safety Awarenes Week in march.

Schools as Facilities

Schools as Facilities

PREVENTION is the ultimate PREPARENESS Strategy!!!

Order your "Back to School" Infection Prevention Tool Kit to allow your students and their families to Practice the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness to teach the BEST prevention techniques.

We HAVE the solution to PREVENT Swine Flu from closing down schools!

Follow these 4 simple steps to protect your School!!!

1.  Have everyone from administrators to the youngest student  wash or wipe their hands EVERY time they ENTER the school. Handwash station, soapy wash cloths, hand wipes, sanitizer, or SaniTwice at every entrance.

2.  Reinforce “Do NOT Touch the T Zone!” Use the Health Shield to help “break the habit” of contaminating mucus membranes of the eye, nose or mouth, one day per week or more frequently.

3.  Practice and Re-iterate the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness using the multi-media School Program.

     1. Wash your hands before eating and when they are dirty!

     2. Do not cough in your hands!

     3. Do not sneeze in your hands!

     4. Above all, do not put your finger in your eyes, nose or mouth!

4. Utilize Henry the Hand Champion Handwasher as the GREETER at every entrance to your facility. This will raise “Hand Awareness” for EVERY student and faculty member to a higher level of understanding.

Start Using the Sniff test, promote communication on “Hand Awareness” through video, songs, posters or pantomime with a puppet, to reinforce the correct “hand behavior”.  Encourage students to remember that their hands are vectors for transmission of germs (per NIAID). These simple steps are proven to decrease the spread of viral illnesses.

Henry the Hand Champion Handwasher and Dr.Will are enlisting many volunteers to help “lend a Hand” to prevent the Swine Flu (H1N1). We are hoping that parents will participate in this true Prevention Campaign to benefit their community.  We are asking you to lend a hand to improve the outcome, by promoting key elements to start practicing now in your community for the” Back to School” rush and beyond.

Remember the Power is in your HANDS  to
“Spread the word not the germs!”
